Program Review

Owned by Hawaiian Holdings, Inc., Hawaiian Airlines is currently based in Honolulu and it's the largest airport in all of Hawaii and the 8th largest airline in the United States based in another country. The airways manage both hubs: the main hub is located in Honolulu International Airport, and the secondary one - on the Maui island. Hawaiian Airlines provides flights to such destinations as New Zealand, the United States, Australia, Asian, and domestic flights all over Hawaii.

One of the things that makes Hawaiian Airlines unique is that it is the oldest US carrier that has never had a fatal accident of a hull loss throughout its history, and it frequently tops the on-time carrier list in the U.S. You will find that this airline has a frequent flyer program known as Hawaiian Miles, which you will definitely want to explore.

HawaiianMiles Program

HawaiianMiles is the official frequent flyer program for Hawaiian Airlines. This program allows its members to earn miles by simply booking flights as well as other things. Members can use the miles they accrue to book complimentary award flights, cabin upgrades, and a number of other things. Signing up for this frequent flyer program is completely free, and there are a wide range of benefits that you will enjoy as a result of doing so.

Earning HawaiianMiles Points

HawaiianMiles members will earn 1 mile for every mile they flew with Hawaiian Airlines or any of its partner air carriers, which includes Virgin America and JetBlue. This program also offers the option of requesting retroactive miles, which are miles that are earned for full-price tickets purchased before enrolling in the program. Another way to go about accruing miles is to book stays with certain hotels that are partners with Hawaiian Airlines, such as Hyatt and Marriott.

You can also book a cruise vacation through Hawaiian Cruises partners, such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean. You will find that even renting vehicles from certain car rental agencies that are partners with this airline can earn you miles. Hawaiian Miles also offers rewards via purchases at any of its partners around the world, including restaurants, online shopping sites, and city tours. Those who sign up for the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard will earn additional miles on travel and everyday purchases. These members can also look forward to earning perks like one free checked bag on flights bought using the card. You will also be able to buy up to 10,000 HawaiianMiles in 500-mile increments on the program’s official website.

Redeeming Mileage Points

Once you have accrued enough HawaiianMiles points, you will want to know how to go about redeeming them for whatever you want. If you want to redeem your miles for an award flight, the very first thing you will need to do is to visit HawaiianAirlines.com and sign into your HawaiianMiles account. Click on the “Book Award Travel” button or sign in from the flight selection page and then choose “Miles” for display. When you change your display option to “Miles,” you will be able to see the available award selection. When it comes to non-flight awards, you will probably want to call the HawaiianMiles Service Center at 1-877-426-4537.

By calling this number you will be able to get all of the information you need on redeeming your miles if you have any questions whatsoever. If you have an E-certificate that you want to redeem, you will need to go to HawaiianAirlines.com/ECertificate to do so. If you don’t have a code, you will need to sign into your account and select the eCertificate before you select your flights. Keep in mind that every time you redeem or earn points, you won’t have to worry about any of them expiring for at least 18 months. You will never have to worry about blackout dates, and you’ll be able to take advantage of one-way awards. The combinable award levels include Super Saver, Saver, and Anytime Awards.

Routing Rules

There are some routing rules with regards to the HawaiianMiles program that you will want to know about, including that stopovers are not permitted. Award levels based on redemption from a single account.

Redeem on Upgrades

Members of HawaiianMiles can choose to use the miles/points they have accumulated to upgrade their cabin class. Upgrades are available for purchase online or through kiosk check-in within 24 hours before departure. If you want to upgrade your existing reservation to First/Business Class, you will be able to change your reservation to reflect that on the official Hawaiian Airlines website. There are two different types of mileage upgrades for First/Business class, including First/Business Saver, which is the lowest mileage flight award offered, and First/Business Flex, which is twice the miles of a First/Business Safer award.

Booking Fees & Charges

There is a ticket change fee of $30 per ticket plus the fare difference for neighboring islands, $200 per ticket plus fare difference for North America, and $50-$300 per ticket plus fare difference for International flights. There is also a $25 reservation fee, and a $100 refund fee.

Elite Levels

There are a number of different membership levels with HawaiianMiles, including the basic HawaiianMiles Membership, the Pualani Gold Membership, and the Pualani Platinum Membership. Anyone can get the basic HawaiianMiles membership, but you need 30 segments or 20,000 Flight Miles to get to the Gold Membership level. You will need 60 segments or 40,000 flight points to get to the Platinum level.

Benefits of HawaiianMiles Program

You will quickly discover that there are quite a few different benefits associated with the various tiers, and it is important that you explore some of them. Some of these benefits include Fare-Hold Reservations, Neighbor Island Economy Class Seat Guaranteed, Premier Club/First Class Check-in Line in Honolulu & Neighbor Island Airport, Check-in Baggage Allowance, Priority Pre-Boarding on flights before general boarding, and much more.

You will also be able to take advantage of priority routing and handling when calling the Exclusive Reservations Line. If you want to enjoy a myriad of benefits, it is highly recommended that you take the time to look through some of the benefits of each tier on Hawaiian Airlines’ official website.
